What is University of South Wales (USW) Nightline?

We are a confidential listening service run by USW students, for USW students. Relationships, stress, friends or course work – you can get in touch about anything. As specially trained student volunteers, we can directly empathise with our callers’ problems. We don’t judge, we don’t give advice, and we certainly don’t tell our student callers what to do – we just listen. Best of all, Nightline is confidential and anonymous, meaning students accessing the service don’t even have to give their name.

USW Nightline is part of a bigger charity called Nightline Association which helps to inform some of our practices, rules, and guidelines. However, we are independently run by a group of students from USW, with support and guidance from the Students’ Union and the University.

Open every Wednesday evening from 8pm to 2pm (during term time).

Who are our Nightline volunteers?

Our USW Nightline volunteers are USW students, just like you. All our Nightline volunteers receive ongoing training and have the choice of taking part in our Buddy Support System. They have been selected for their ability to provide a non-judgmental, non-advisory, confidential listening service to our callers.

Ensuring your privacy

Nightline has strict rules regarding confidentiality and anonymity which help to protect both the volunteer and the service user. We ask that all volunteers are anonymous in the sense that they do not tell others that they are a Nightline volunteer; this is so that people are not discouraged from using us as a service. We also take confidentiality extremely seriously and do not disclose any information about the contacts we receive and the content of those contacts outside of the service.
