After a year away, our Trick or TrEat Campaign was back! We set up food collection points and went trick or treating to collect food for the local food bank.
After a triumphant Freshers, USWSU was determined to get back on track and continue our success by running our popular Trick or TrEAT campaign. In the last year, it has become even more apparent how foodbanks are an integral lifeline for people and families suffering from financial hardship across the country. As a charity ourselves, we wanted to be a part of this support network and demonstrate our community spirit and dedication to the cause. We remembered it had been thoroughly enjoyed by staff and students alike in previous years and wanted to get stuck in and support our local communities in Cardiff, Treforest and Newport.
So...What did we do?
This year, we reunited with Cardiff Students’ Union and brought University of Wales Trinity Saint David Students’ Union on board to run this event and collect food. With a group of volunteers, a van, some empty boxes, and a bunny costume (worn by David our Education Officer!) we set out into Cardiff to trick or treat to collect food for the food bank. Not only this but we also set up collection boxes across all campuses to encourage donations from those who couldn’t attend.
What was the outcome?
We’re very proud to say that the volunteers from all three unions did an absolutely amazing job, and as a collective, we managed to collect almost 700 items of food and toiletries to be donated to the food banks. This is a major win for us all after returning to campus and loved collaborating and working alongside Cardiff University SU and UWTSD SU.
Thank you to all our volunteers and the local community for showing such enthusiasm and generosity towards this event and we can’t wait to be doing it again next year. We hope to continue to keep raising awareness about food poverty and encourage everyone to hopefully make a difference!
