Congratulations to our elected Officer Team for the academic year of 2025-26! To help you get to know them better we asked them a few questions about themselves and why they stood to be a full-time officer!
President – Irfan Rahman
Hi, my name is Irfan and I'm just finishing my bachelor's degree in computer science. I’m from a beautiful country in South Asia called Bangladesh. I stood because I’ve seen first-hand how student voices can make a real difference, and I’ve always believed in turning student concerns into action. I stood to make sure that the Students’ Union continues to be a space where students feel heard and supported.
Outside of academics, I love spending quality time with my friends—whether that’s jamming with real instruments, diving into deep conversations, or discovering new spots to eat together.
Favourite film? Tough choice, but anything with a mix of heart and clever storytelling usually wins me over!
It felt incredible to win the election. Seeing everyone's trust and support was really special. It reminded me why this work matters—and that we’re all in it together to make the student experience better.
My main focus over the next year will be on reducing the impact of recent changes within the university that have affected essential services and student life. I want to work toward restoring what we’ve lost and finding new ways to support students academically and socially. I’m also excited to make Varsity at USW more organised and engaging for everyone involved. On a national level, I’ll be advocating for fair tuition fees, better support for international students, and fair apprentice wages. I’m looking forward to representing your voices on campus and beyond.
VP Welfare – Imam Hossain
My name is M Imam Hossain, and I'm the current VP Welfare. Originally from Rajshahi, Bangladesh, I bring a spirited demeanor to everything I do. I thrive on forging new connections, relish in festive gatherings, and have a deep passion for sports.
One of my defining traits is my penchant for dressing impeccably; I always strive to present myself well, especially on special occasions where I take pleasure in donning new suits.
Having recently been re-elected as the Vice President of Welfare, I am filled with pride and gratitude for the trust bestowed upon me by those who voted. My foremost goal is to enhance awareness and accessibility to the well-being resources provided by USWSU, as many students remain unaware of these invaluable services. Furthermore, I am committed to championing the voices of minority groups, ensuring they feel empowered to express themselves freely.
I envision creating an inclusive environment where every student, irrespective of background, feels at home. This entails recognizing and celebrating the diversity within our university, including observing special occasions such as Black History Month.
VP Activities – Rhodri Morris-Stiff
Hi everyone, my name is Rhodri, and I’m your VP Activities for 2025-26! I’m a Pontypridd local and went to the Welsh school just down the road from the Uni before coming here to study a degree in computer science.
Outside of Uni I enjoy a variety of sports like badminton and kickboxing. I also like listening to music, trying new food and watching films and my favorite film has to be Darjeeling Limited. A fun fact about me is I've been coming to the university for over 20 years, as I used to attend Summer Camps here as a child!
I stood to be your VP Activities, so I'd have the chance to play a role in organising events at the university such as Varsity, and to help support all the SU’s clubs, teams and societies which have been an important part of my Uni experience. To bring more parity to societies, supporting societies of all sizes, but working to promote smaller ones, ensuring they all get the support they need.
To be honest, it was quite a surprise to win, but I felt very lucky and grateful to those who supported and voted for me. I'm most looking forward to supporting all the university's teams throughout the next BUCS season and elevating our Varsity Day with UWE to new heights!
VP Education – Rahat Mubassir
My name is Rahat Mubassir, originally from Bangladesh and I’m studying LLB Accelerated Route. I stood for this role because I’m deeply committed to ensuring that all students have a positive academic experience, and I believe that starts with listening to their voices. As a Course Rep, I’ve already seen the importance of advocacy and addressing student concerns, and I want to build on that by making a larger impact. I want to promote inclusivity, wellbeing, and academic excellence, and I know this role will give me the platform to create meaningful changes that benefit all students.
My favorite hobby is reading biographies of influential people they inspire me with their resilience and determination. I love The Pursuit of Happiness because it motivates me to never give up, no matter how tough life get
Winning felt incredible-I'm truly honored and grateful for the support from everyone who believed in me. It's amazing to know that students trust me to represent their voices, and it motivates me even more to work hard and make a real difference. I’m most looking forward to working on improving access to academic support and ensuring student voices are truly heard. Creating regular feedback forums and strengthening collaboration with student services are top priorities for me. I’m also excited to work on expanding digital resources and flexible learning options to make education more accessible and inclusive for everyone.
